MARSHAL / PRACTICAL GUIDE

How to plan a business website people can use.

A strong business website makes the next step understandable. Before comparing layouts or collecting design references, work through the questions below. The answers help whether you choose a website builder or hire a provider.

Prepare your website brief ↗
01

Say what the business offers

Write a short explanation a new visitor can understand. Use the words customers use for the service or product. Give major services their own clear pages rather than expect visitors to decode a slogan.

02

Give every page a job

Choose the pages needed to explain the offer, answer buying questions, show relevant work and make contact possible. Product pages should help someone choose an item. A guide should answer a question. More pages are useful only when they provide something distinct.

03

Prepare information and proof

Gather current product or service details and examples you have permission to show. Explain what a project demonstrates. A real screenshot, working link or clearly labelled prototype can be useful without adding unsupported testimonials or performance claims.

04

Make mobile use part of the brief

Inspect navigation, headings, product information and contact links on a phone. Long paragraphs, small controls and content that overflows can make a simple task harder. Test the task, not just the appearance of the first screen.

05

Check the contact path

Use the phone or email routes the business controls, and explain what to send in the first enquiry. Test that the link opens the expected destination without sending a message. Include the business base where appropriate, without inventing additional offices or walk-in hours.

06

Check discovery and maintenance

Ask about descriptive titles, crawlable links, canonical URLs and the sitemap. Agree who updates content after launch. Search setup helps discovery; it is not a guarantee that the site will rank for every competitive phrase.
